2010-12-20I’m going to do a few more of these.

Leafy Ice Block: Wobble 3D GIF
2010-12-07I know these probably make some people nauseous, if so, scroll on down, but I love wobble 3D GIFS, limited colours, dithering and all.

3D Print Project
2010-11-28Over the last few months I’ve been working on a design for a 3D print. I’ve been mulling over this idea for a while. It involves creating a specific kind of illusion which will be visible only from certain angles. After failing to get the precision I needed with cardboard, I decided 3D printing was the way to go.
I taught myself Google Sketchup along the way. After redesigning a few times I managed to get a version that was suitable for printing at Shapeways. The pricing is by volume of material, so that shaped the design. The first blocky version I uploaded was going to cost $5000, so I started again and came up with something much lighter that cost $50. My object arrived in the post a few days after I ordered it. It’s the future! It didn’t quite work as I’d hoped, but I know what I need to do for the next version. Here’s some of the progression.

Diamondback
2010-11-19The new site is still progressing. The home page looks about as it should now but more pages need to be added. In the meantime, here’s a sculpture I designed back in college and left in the garden. A few years later and it’s started to look more at home.
New Site in Progress

2010-08-14Commission for a mural on this wall next to a sliding door. I decided to make the door part of it, and used whiteboard for the bubbles so anyone can write their own dialogue.
Since Last Time
2010-08-06It’s been a long time since I updated this blog.
Why? Well my laptop got stolen by my housemate’s friends, and I spent months moving around looking for somewhere else to live.
I lost the projects I was working on at the time, including a pretty big Processing/Arduino project which I had been hoping to show somewhere. I’m not keen on repeating myself, so if I do those projects again I’ll have to make them differentWhat work have I been doing lately instead? Well, I’ve made a mural, an experimental Arduino device, taken some photos for a magazine, designed a project for 3d printing, and helped with an album cover.
I’ll post details of some of these things soon.
