Here’s something a bit different. I helped out with this album cover last year, doing the layout, but I never got around to posting it until now. Maggie Claire Cross – Heavy Talk for a Postcard.

With Processing, as with many things, I’m finding that sometimes mistakes produce results I like. I wasn’t trying to make something that looked anything like this, but this is what happened when I ran the program. All I did to edit it was crop it and knock the black background off to a more gentle grey.

I’m mostly working with newer technologies these days, but I’ve added a page to showcase my traditional drawing and painting skills. The majority of this is old stuff, like the oil painting of Sweetheart Abbey here, so it’s more a demonstration of what I CAN do rather than what I’ve been doing recently, but I’ve got some pictures of a mural I did last year in there too.

I’ve got some programs (or “sketches”) I made using Processing, and when I put my images through these programs there’s some random variation and they come out a little different each time. I can pick the best one and do a little adjusting by hand if needed. That’s how I’ve been making some of the images I’ve been putting up here. In this example, the same half moon shape is a little different in each of the nine versions. It’s a bit like the variation you might get with some of the messier printmaking processes.
