Grain Shade 2
20th December, 2010I’m going to do a few more of these.

18th December, 2010Photoshop and Processing. Detail Below.
Leafy Ice Block: Wobble 3D GIF
7th December, 2010I know these probably make some people nauseous, if so, scroll on down, but I love wobble 3D GIFS, limited colours, dithering and all.
3D Print Project
28th November, 2010Over the last few months I’ve been working on a design for a 3D print. I’ve been mulling over this idea for a while. It involves creating a specific kind of illusion which will be visible only from certain angles. After failing to get the precision I needed with cardboard, I decided 3D printing was the way to go.
I taught myself Google Sketchup along the way. After redesigning a few times I managed to get a version that was suitable for printing at Shapeways. The pricing is by volume of material, so that shaped the design. The first blocky version I uploaded was going to cost $5000, so I started again and came up with something much lighter that cost $50. My object arrived in the post a few days after I ordered it. It’s the future! It didn’t quite work as I’d hoped, but I know what I need to do for the next version. Here’s some of the progression.
Diamondback
19th November, 2010The new site is still progressing. The home page looks about as it should now but more pages need to be added. In the meantime, here’s a sculpture I designed back in college and left in the garden. A few years later and it’s started to look more at home.
New Site in Progress
9th November, 2010Imported my Blogger stuff into WordPress. Need to change the appearance and add some pages now.

14th August, 2010Commission for a mural on this wall next to a sliding door. I decided to make the door part of it, and used whiteboard for the bubbles so anyone can write their own dialogue.
Since Last Time
6th August, 2010It’s been a long time since I updated this blog.
Why? Well my laptop got stolen by my housemate’s friends, and I spent months moving around looking for somewhere else to live.
I lost the projects I was working on at the time, including a pretty big Processing/Arduino project which I had been hoping to show somewhere. I’m not keen on repeating myself, so if I do those projects again I’ll have to make them differentWhat work have I been doing lately instead? Well, I’ve made a mural, an experimental Arduino device, taken some photos for a magazine, designed a project for 3d printing, and helped with an album cover.
I’ll post details of some of these things soon.
